Pacamara was developed in the 1950s by the Instituto Salvadoreño de Investigaciones del Café in El Salvador. It is a cross between Pacas and Maragogipe and posses traits of both: dwarfism and high productivity from Pacas, and large bean size and exceptional cup quality from Maragogipe. Due to Pacamara being an incomplete pedigree selection it is not stable from one generation to the next, with offspring plants often reverting to one of the parent varieties.
