Varidad Colombia was developed in Colombia by Cenicafé between 1968 and 1982 and is a hybrid of the Caturra and Timor Hybrid varieties. It was developed for good yields and resistance to leaf rust. Luckily it was released in Colombia just before their first big outbreak of leaf rust in 1983 and many credit this variety for saving the Colombian coffee industry. Varidad Colombia is used as the breeding base for other newer varieties such as Tabi and Castillo.
